Thanatos Tower Dungeon

Introduction

Aside from scarce historical documentation and spoken legends, very little is known about Thanatos Tower's Origin. The most widely accepted theory is that the tower was built to honor the legendary magic wielding swordsman Thanatos's victory over Demon King Morroc, an ancient demon that devistated the human world before the millennium war. According to the legends, Thanatos battled Demon King Morroc for 10 days and nights before he sealed it in the sothern Rune-Midgard desert.

Thanatos Tower is an awe inspiring sight today, but it was crumbling ruins when it was rediscovered by the Rekenber Corporation. Interested in extracting its secrets, Rekenber Corporation planned to recontruct all thirteen of the tower's floors and conduct excavations that will continue the artifact research started by the great Save Varmunt

So far, they have restored the tower's lowest floors and had opened them to the public, charging admission to tourists to fund thier continuing renovation efforts.

But one day, a strange flash of lightning, bright enough to be seen in Einbroch, recently struck the top of Thanatos Tower. There are differing accounts of what had happened, but the disaster left only a few survivors, all claiming that demons or angels attacked them. Despite this tragedy, the Rekenber Corporation refuses to give up, and doggedly pursues its goals...

About the Dungeon

While the tower to this day is still unsafe, the Rekenber Corporation continues to hold a presence on the lowest levels of the tower. While direct access to the tower is impossible by normal means, a Rekenber Associate can guide players for only 5000 zeny. If you have signed up for the Rekenber Thanatos Tower investigation team, then you will recieve a discount and can go to the tower for 3000 zeny.

Because of its current state, there are many reasons why a group of hardy adventurers would be interested in exploring the tower. Because of the crisis, the Rekenber Corporation had halted its reconstruction effort, and is instead looking for people to help investigate its cause. Players interested in exploring the tower than should sign up at the front desk to become part of the investigation effort.

For the safety and accountability of the Rekenber Corporation however, there are restrictions in place. While the first two levels of the tower are open to the general public, anyone wishing to explore further will not only have to have signed up for the investigation team, but travel in a team of 5 or more. Its not required that everyone be in the same party, but the Rekenber Guard will not allow less than 5 people enter the 3th floor of the tower.

Anyone entering past the restored levels of the tower will notice that the farther up they go, the more broken and in ruin the tower becomes. Because the Rekenber Corporation has not properly escavated these floors, there are still many secrets waiting to be unlocked. The primary of these are the seals on the 7th and 12th floors.

It is said that for anyone wishing to go past the 6th floor of the tower, not only do they need to hold with them 4 magic keys, but because of the power of the magical barrier, only those blessed by the gods may pass. Therefore, only those who have transcended may pass this point.

The second seal is on the 12th floor of the tower. To unlock access to the 13th and final floor, one must arange 5 charm stones, which are obtainable within the tower itself.

Atop thanatos tower, the 13th floor, one may be able to summon thanatos himself. To call Thanatos forth, one must use the 4 cursed fragments found from monsters within the tower.

Tower Location

The Tower of Thanatos lies north east of Juno. The most direct path to get to the tower would be to leave Juno from the south, go one map east, and 2 north. On the map here, left of center right across the gorge from the tower itself, will be a Rekenber representative who will assist you in getting to the tower.
